    Wallace “Pastor Wally” Hickey, a leader in establishing Denver’s early charismatic Christian movement with his wife and ministry partner of 50 years, Marilyn Hickey, died Friday.

    He was 87.

    He was the founding pastor of The Happy Church, now known as the Orchard Road Christian Center, where his daughter and son-in-law Sarah and Reece Bowling, continue to lead an interdenominational congregation of about 1,000 at the Beau Monde shopping center at Orchard Road and Interstate 25.

    Wallace Hickey was born May 7, 1925, in Genoa, Neb.

    He earned a bachelor’s degree in music from Nebraska Wesleyan College, served in the Army in World War II, worked as a buyer in the record department of the Denver Dry Goods department store and married his wife in 1954.

    They traveled together as evangelists.
